Introduction |
The mission of the Jewish Eldercare Centre Auxiliary is to enhance
the quality of life of the residents of the Jewish Eldercare Centre
and of the participants of the Geriatric Day Centre; to educate the
public as to the needs of the frail elderly; and to raise funds in
order to help fulfill these goals.
We are a volunteer organization, arranging various donor events throughout
the year which have included a major Gala, fashion show and a Movie
Fest. The Auxiliary’s annual meeting and luncheon is held in
May each year.
Our Les Cadeaux Papillon gift shop and Le Bistro
coffee shop in the Kastner Pavilion, as well as Le Café
coffee shop in the Hope Pavilion, are very popular among residents,
families and visitors, and also generate significant funds for the
Centre.
Attractive tribute cards are also available from the Auxiliary, acknowledging
donations to celebrate life cycle events such as births, birthdays,
anniversaries and graduations, or to send a get well wish or a card
in memory of a loved one.
In addition to providing much-needed equipment for the Centre, Auxiliary
donors help us sponsor highly beneficial therapeutic programs for
our residents. This includes the adult education program, a very rewarding
and motivating program for higher-functioning residents, who have
access to courses such as Tai Chi, Art Therapy, Jewish Art and The
History of Yiddish Music. Different topics are offered each year,
and a graduation ceremony for the residents and their invited guests
is held at the end of May.
The Auxiliary is also supplying every new resident with a welcome
basket which includes essential everyday items and amenities.
To help the Auxiliary, as a donor or as a volunteer, please call 738-4500
extension 8108, or drop by the Auxiliary office on the main floor
of the Kastner Pavilion.
Annual membership in the Auxiliary is available with a donation of
$25 per year, with additional supporting categories of $36 and $54,
as well as a lifetime membership for $200, payable over 2 years. Lifetime
members are recognized on a special plaque located next to the Auxiliary
office.
